The year was 1988, the place the Chinese capital city. The Kunlun Beijing opened as the first Chinese five-star hotel in the capital city, welcoming state and foreign dignitaries, official delegations, and international clientele. The same year, in the rapidly developing city of Shanghai, one of the first international hotels premiered in downtown Jing An district. At the forefront of the city's economic growth the former Hilton Shanghai built a reputation over 30 years for excellence in service and commitment to the local community, earning a place in the city's history as a landmark for hospitality.

And in 2018, the tale of these two landmark city hotels come together to develop as one iconic Chinese hospitality brand: The Kunlun.
